The purpose of this text is to provide information to students, technicians, inspectors, maintenance engineers, shop foremen, and others who may wish to become familiar with the electrical and electronic (avionic) systems installed in aircraft and space vehicles.

This book is one of a series of texts prepared by the staff of Northrop Institute of Technology on the construction, inspection, operation, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of aircraft, space vehicles, and powerplants. Because the text includes material applicable to all aerospace vehicles, the term "aerospace" is used in place of the word "aircraft." The word "aerospace" has been generally accepted as an inclusive term to describe any vehicle that flies, either in the atmosphere (aero) or outside the atmosphere (space). The title "Electricity and Electronics for Aerospace Vehicles" has been carefully selected to be descriptive of the material contained in the text. With the background knowledge obtained in earlier chapters, a student is able to understand the electronic systems in modern airliners and space vehicles. These systems are usually described as avionic systems, inasmuch as they represent aviation electronics.
Although a detailed study of advanced electronic systems is beyond the scope of the text, the last several chapters are devoted to descriptions of many of these systems as installed in modern aircraft and space vehicles. Following the chapters explaining fundamental theory, the applications to electrical and electronic systems are described. This textbook provides a thorough coverage of basic electrical and electronic theory at a level which is easily understood by the student who does not have a knowledge of advanced mathematics.
